Data Collection Module
If there is no other way to collect the data, some information can be gathered by installing a module inside the CNC which will tap into signals. A common starting point is to grab the signals driving a stack light on top of the machine (running, paused and alarm). Other signals with discrete outputs such as buttons, switches or dials may also be easy to intercept. Using the data collection module requires installation by a qualified electrician
1. All data collected via Macro Commands requires these commands to be embedded in the part program or in a subroutine stored in CNC memory. The resolution to which the data will be accurate is dependant on how often the macro commands are executed during the course of a cycle.
2. All information collected via the data collection module is dependant upon being able to find the discrete signal in the CNC which represents the data listed. An electrician will need to tap into that signal with a relay in order to pass that information to the data collection module.
3. The MTConnect standard is implemented differently by different manufacturers at this time. Since most of the data fields are optional, which data specifically can be obtained depends on your CNC manufacturer's implementation.
4. Dependant on your specific CNC's ability to output this information via macro command.
5. This is considered an optional signal for use of the data collection module.
